Lithuanian Welfare Society for Persons with Intellectual Disability “Viltis” is a non-governmental organization established in 1989 to defend and represent the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities, their family members, and closest relatives.

Our goal

The main goal of the society “Viltis” is to ensure the equal and full participation of persons with intellectual disabilities in public life, to represent the interests of these people, their family members, and relatives at all levels, and to defend their civic, social, and human rights.

We pursue the following specific objectives:

  • To unite residents of the Republic of Lithuania with intellectual disabilities (children, young people, adults), their families, guardians, relatives, and other persons acting in their interest.
  • To strive for the comprehensive integration of persons with intellectual disabilities into public life.
  • To promote the ecological, medical, and social prevention of intellectual disability and the earliest possible detection of disorders.
  • To promote the development and practical implementation of rehabilitation methods for persons with intellectual disabilities.
  • To defend and represent the social and civic rights, freedoms, and dignity of children, young people, and adults with intellectual disabilities, their family members, and relatives, and to satisfy their social, cultural, and other needs.
  • To create favourable conditions for fulfilling obligations, making choices, and participating in public life.
  • To ensure the publicity of the activities of the “Viltis” Society.

About Our Members

Today, the  society “Viltis” connects 44 cities and regions in Lithuania, uniting children, young people, and adults with disabilities, their family members and guardians, and specialists. The activities are ensured and the social partnership is developed through programs, projects, and services implemented by the society “Viltis”, aimed not only at the society’s members, but also at all Lithuanian persons with intellectual disabilities and their families and guardians.
